History
The idea for a Princes Hill Community Garden was born in July 2008, at a meeting in the North Carlton Railway House. There was such a great response from local residents to the idea of developing a community garden, the group decided to meet monthly to help bring the idea to fruition. We met at the Princes Hill Community Center, making plans for our dream garden.
In the following year and a half we made some wonderful progress, much more than we thought possible!
We visited many established community gardens in inner Melbourne, getting ideas to create a wonderful garden, unique to the Princes Hill area.
With The help of Yarra City Council, we identified a couple of potential sites for the garden, and to whet our appetites for gardening, we planted a small community herb garden by the bocce courts at the North Carlton Railway house. If you happen to be strolling past, please help yourself to a few sprigs to liven up your next meal!
We developed a committee of management, and a paid membership of over 50 households.
With amazing support from the Yarra City Council, things are looking good. Hopefully soon our dream of a Princes Hill community Garden will be realised!
